Microsoft 365 - Latest Updates

Every year Microsoft periodically releases new updates for Microsoft 365, but for Office 365 subscribers it can be difficult to keep up with what changes occur in each update and knowing when they are available. As Microsoft Gold Partners, our IT experts at Treken have consolidated the most interesting and useful features from the latest update released in August 2020, in order to help you get the most out of your Microsoft 365 subscription.

Microsoft Teams - new Tasks app

You can now stay on top of your routine tasks without having to leave the Microsoft Teams app. The new tasks app which is intergrated into Teams makes managing your tasks easier as there is no longer a need to flip between apps to see them. This new update provides a unified view of tasks and assignments from across Microsoft To Do, Planner, and Outlook, helping you consolidate and prioritise your tasks. To get started, add the “Planner” app (the name will later change to “Tasks”) to your Teams client or add it as a tab at the top of a Teams channel.

Improved security for SMEs

Microsoft has provided a basic security policy for admins that applies to all Windows devices that are integrated with Microsoft Intune. The Business Premium subscription is required for this. This feature is particularly useful for small and medium-sized businesses, as the protection of their Microsoft 365 environment is important to avoid major failures due to security gaps.

New Whiteboard features

Whiteboard users can now look forward to new functions: sticky notes, text, drag & drop. This makes working remotely easier in the virtual environment - an update which will be appreciated by many during these current times. Microsoft has also optimised the performance of the whiteboard feature, claiming it to be faster than ever - for smoother and more effective meetings.

Does Office 365 Automatically Update?

If you've read this article and are wondering if the new updates have been applied to your account, or if you need to manually update the apps, rest assured. By default, updates for Microsoft 365 Apps are downloaded automatically from the internet and applied in the background, without any user or administrator intervention.
