Case Study: WiFi Solution to assist with Admissions and Payments at Poole Harbour Festival
The Project
We were requested by the team at Poole Harbour Festival to determine and provide the best possible WiFi solution to assist with taking card payments for bar and ticket sales, as well as confirming pre-booked tickets.
Installing WiFi at a large event like a festival can be particularly challenging due to no fixed broadband services being available at the site, and mobile networks being saturated by the thousands of people (with their phones) in attendance.
What’s more, the festival organisers rely heavily on the income from the bars and ticket sales – mostly now done with contactless payment requiring a wireless internet connection. So the solution has to be secure and stable at all times.
What we achieved for the client
Having investigated and surveyed the best solution for reliable WiFi at the site for bars and entrance gates, we sourced and installed 5G routers with external 5G directional antennas.
This achieved speeds of over 600Mb/s during setup, and throughout the 3-day weekend the speeds didn’t drop below a reliable 200Mb/s – even when the festival was at its peak on Saturday.
As a result, the festival bars remained stable for taking card payments throughout, as did the gate for ticket sales and pre-booked ticket verification.
By purchasing the internet hardware, Poole Harbour Festival now owns the equipment which can be re-used for future events in the area.
